PROJECT DESCRIPTION

With this new facility, Washington State Patrol aimed to produce a state of the art, multi-functional crime lab. The 35,000-square-foot forensic lab was built in two phases with a steel-frame building and brick veneer exterior. With a complex facility, MENG Analysis assisted in delivering the design within budget. This study was tasked with identifying system alternatives that offer first-cost or life cycle cost benefits and/or improve project quality.

Key Proposals included:

-
Revise roof to reduce concrete parapet height to reduce costs and structural complexity
-
Use a lighter-weight material at the top of the building to reduce cost and structural complexity
