Davenport Elementary School Modernization and New Middle School Addition

This project had several significant constraints including the limited site available for expansion of the Middle School addition and the limited footprint (i.e. narrow corridor width) of the existing Elementary School classroom wing.  This limited the ability to provide group pullout or small group learning areas.  One of the major challenges facing the design team was how to provide additional classroom space and the District's desire for two full size gyms in the project within the existing budget and base bid.  The VA team provided schemes to accomplish this as well as alternatives for maximizing the available square footage in the modernization side of the project for lower first costs of construction.  The VA team validated the approach of the design team and their selection of basic building systems and their successful integration of the addition and the existing building.   MENG Analysis provided a total of 26 proposals yielding a total first cost savings potential of $1,520,000.
