MENG Analysis worked with the University to review and revise its Design Standards. The University provides academic services to nearly two-thirds of the state of Alaska through seven campuses in twenty communities. The Design Standards communicate the most important design features and functions, establish a standard of quality for the University, reduce maintenance and operating
costs, and provide direction to consultants in the development of construction documents. These standards do not repeat building codes and industry standards; rather, they are intended to allow for flexibility in differing conditions, and to encourage creative design to meet the needs of the University at the best possible life cycle cost, while adhering to industry design standards.
